This icon shows Mary, at the age of three, being brought to the temple by her parents, Joachim and Anna, who wanted to dedicate her to God. She is greeted by the High Priest, Zachariah, who led her to the Holy of Holies, where she would grow up learning to serve the most High God.
After thy birth, O Lady and Bride of God, thou hast gone to dwell in the temple of the Lord, there to be brought up in the Holy of Holies, for thou art thyself holy (Great Vespers, Lord I Call, tone 8)
